RG3 is being hailed as the Redskins' Savior.
Today I will be analyzing the Washington Redskins 2012 NFL draft class, giving my thoughts on their picks and what kind of impact I think they can make for their team.
Round 1 Pick 2 Robert Griffin III QB Baylor – Great pick but the Redskins didn’t really have a choice at 2. They were terrible at QB the last couple seasons and were in desperate need of a change, Robert Griffin III is that change. He is a dynamic leader that can make plays with his arm and his feet. Has a great football I.Q. and will be the franchise QB in DC for years to come.
Round 3 Pick 71 Josh LeRibeus G SMU – This is a good but interesting pick. LeRibeus missed the 2010 season because of academic issues and gained a lot of weight but he came back in 2011, lost a bunch of the weight and had a very solid senior season. He has the potential to be a very solid Guard and can start almost right away because the Redskins are pretty weak at the O-line, which will give him game experience and help him develop.
Round 4 Pick 102 Kirk Cousins QB Michigan State – The Redskins took Griffin in the 1st Round but Cousins is a solid QB and could be a decent starter if something happens to RGIII.They did need a backup but it was still a little early in my opinion. They have other needs that could have been addressed but I guess they really liked Cousins.
Round 4 Pick 119 Keenan Robinson LB Texas – Pretty good pick here. Keenan Robinson was a very productive player at Texas and was a leader on for their Defense. He has the size you want in an NFL linebacker but some question whether or not he will be able to keep up with the speed of the NFL. Could be a good rotational linebacker but will take a little time to develop.
Round 5 Pick 141 Adam Gettis G Iowa- Really good pick here .I actually like him more then LeRibeus who the Redskins took in the 3rd Round, Looks more NFL Ready. Was a little light in College but he went from around 280 which was his playing weight in college to around 295 at the combine and showed he could move well at that weight. As long as he stays at about the 290-300 weight level and continues to grow I think he can be the best O-linemen that Redskins get from this Draft.
Round 6 Pick 173 Alfred Morris RB Florida Atlantic- I like Alfred Morris a lot. He plays very fast and shows great field vision. The Redskins already have a good young back but Morris looks like he would be great in 3rd down and goal line situations. He may take a little bit take adjust but I think he can make a little bit of an impact this year.
Round 6 Pick 193 Tom Compton OT South Dakota – This is a good player to get in the 6th round.Tom Compton is a great pass blocker shows good power and great footwork but has a tendency to get pushed around when it comes to run blocking. He be a good back up that will excel in the passing game but he will need to work on his Run blocking.
Round 7 Pick 213 Richard Crawford CB SMU-This is an OK pick.He will be a depth cornerback and will play special teams.
Round 7 Pick 217 Jordan Bernstine CB Iowa-This is another OK pick. Bernstine is a good tackler but needs to work on his cover skills and making more plays.
Overall this is a decent draft class for the Redskins. They got their franchise QB, a couple decent O-linemen, a good back up running back, a depth linebacker and some back up CB’s. Griffin will probably be the only starter from this class but they did get some role players that can make an impact.
