The Patriots have released Anthony Gonzalez How many more WR's have to go?
The New England Patriots cleared one player out of the logjam they currently have at wide receiver, releasing Anthony Gonzalez today according to the Boston Herald.
Gonzalez, who signed with the team this offseason as a free agent from the Colts, was starting to look like a long shot to make the roster.
The Patriots have an incredible amount of depth at receiver with Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Deion Branch, Julian Edelman, Jabar Gaffney, Matthew Slater, Chad Ochocinco and Donte Stallworth.
Although all eight players have starting experience or have played key roles on special teams, keeping that many receivers would be outrageous, even for Bill Belichick.
So, you can expect a few moves to be made at this position before the final 53-man roster is finished being constructed.
