The 2010 season was supposed to be a dream season for the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead, it turned into a nightmare, as turnovers and injuries turned a supremely talented team into a mediocre one that finished the season 8-8 and out of the playoffs.
Yet, even though the Eagles failed to meet the lofty expectations set for the them at the onset of last season, they did finish the year strong, winning their last four games as they finally appeared to hit their stride.
The big question that now surrounds the Eagles as they enter the 2011 season, is whether or not they can build on that momentum and use it to make a run to the postseason.
The key cog for Philadelphia in any hypothetical run to the playoffs is going to be the health and production of quarterback Michael Vick. Last season, Vick regressed from the high level at which he played in 2010. He posted a respectable 7-6 record as a starter but missed three crucial games due to injury, completed only 59 percent of his passes to go along with just 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also rushed for 589 yards and score one touchdown.
Quarterback is the key to winning in the NFL and despite the vast number of other stars on the team including, LeSean McCoy, Nnamdi Asomugha, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Trent Cole, Jason Babin, Cullen Jenkins, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and newly acquired Demeco Ryans, the Eagles fate will still rest on Vick’s shoulders.
However, many other pieces are required to be successful and Vick cannot lead the Eagles back to the playoffs by himself, so here is a projection of the Eagles 53-man roster as the team prepares for another run at the playoffs:
QB (3): Michael Vick, Mike Kafka, Nick Foles.
