I would like to say that I do not pull any punches when it comes to Big Ben. He is a terrific quarterback. That said, he is also the biggest Drama King in the NFL. Ben would give the NBA’s drama kings a run for their money any day of the week and twice on Sunday. It’s ridiculous that he had to mention his torn rotator cuff from last season, but he did it anyways in typical Big Ben Style. As he said though, “it’s a SERIOUS NON ISSUE”.
Mike and Mike in the Morning, of ESPN Radio fame hand out a “just shut up” award weekly and I have to say, he would certainly get my vote. He just can’t help himself. It’s really funny at this point. He is the guy that cry’s wolf after the wolf eats his friend and scratches him on the arm. I am not making light of his injuries, just the Drama that comes with them. This goes all the way back to the broken toes that he swears he had back to his first season that to this day, the former head coach denies. Every season this guy gets injured and just has to talk about it.
Now that training camp is back and in full swing, the team is getting familiar with a new offense. It’s an offense that traditional Steeler fans will enjoy because they plan to run more, and also plan to use a full back. You remember that guy, he lines up in front of the running back and attempts to create holes for the running back to run through. In years past, the offense has been centered around Ben’s ability to abandon the play that was called and just throw it to an open receiver. This is also the reason Ben has been injured so much because he takes too many hits. That said, Isaac Redman will be carrying the bulk of the load for the Steelers at running back as Mendenhall recovers from surgery. Redman will probably be the starter for most of the season because of this injury.
