New York Giants’ Terrell Thomas: Right Now I’m at Cornerback and That’s Where I Expect To Be.

It’s been almost three years since anyone has last seen Terrell Thomas on the football field for the New York Giants. But after two consecutive torn ACL injuries that have required season-ending surgeries, Thomas is on the comeback trail, looking for one last chance to make something of a once-promising NFL career that has been derailed by injury.

On Thursday, Thomas returned to the Giants and participated in his first practice of the 2013 year, although it was in a light capacity, as Sean Folger of Inside Football had said.

Despite the injuries to Thomas’ knee, the 28-year-old is expecting to continue playing at corner for the Giants when the season begins.

“Right now I’m at corner and that’s where I expect to be. I’m just trying to get myself back on the field,” he said.
Thomas didn’t perform in any of the 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills, but he did participate in the individual cornerback drills, which allowed him to cut, accelerate, and leap for interceptions while covering another cornerback acting as a receiver, which according to reports, he looked very strong during.
After the 2011 season, the Giants had made a strong investment into Thomas because he was seen as the team’s best cover corner and locked him up to a four-year, $28 million deal, but after Thomas’ second-straight ACL injury, the team restructured Thomas’ deal to a one-year pact and avoided having to make the drastic decision to cut him.
Some feel that Thomas might be shifted over from corner to safety to preserve his knees and his NFL career, but for right now, Thomas is still listed as a cornerback for the Giants until otherwise.
