Week 2 was a big ol’ sloppy mess, as RB after RB went down to injury, and now fantasy owners will be left wondering what to do with their fantasy lineups heading into week 3. I will use this article to help update the status of each RB leading up to game day, and your best bet on Sunday will be to check out our forums where we will be posting updates and helping to set fantasy lineups before kickoff.
Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville Jaguars (Probable)
Good news bad news situation here for MJD owners. After suffering a left ankle strain (not sprain..) in week 2, the Jaguars have been cautiously optimistic that he will be ok for week 3. The bad news? The Jaguars are playing the Seahawks. This is likely a running back situation to avoid for the week ahead.
Ray Rice – Baltimore Ravens (Game Time Decision)
Rice suffered a left hip flexor on a scary non contact play in week 2. As he collapsed to the ground, fantasy managers around the country groaned in despair. Hopefully you planned for this eventuality and drafted Bernard Pierce as a handcuff. No? Well the latest update for Rice is that he isn’t expected to practice at all this week, leaving him a true game time decision come Sunday.
Our best guess? Rice will take the week off, and hopefully be ready to go for week 4. We aren’t likely to know his status until a few hours before kickoff, and if you find yourself reading this article on gameday, make sure you jump into the forums where our NFL writers will be able to update you on the latest happenings from around the league.
Reggie Bush – Detroit Lions (Doubtful)
Reggie Bush started out the week questionable, but after a less than optimistic quote from his coach, we have downgraded him to doubtful. Coach Schwartz said that while Bush’s knee injury wasn’t long term, “I guess it could be medium term”. Medium term would certainly imply that Bush won’t be available in week 3, but only time will tell. He was one of the better fantasy running backs through the first two games, but injuries could end up costing him a good amount of time this season.
Steven Jackson – Atlanta Falcons (Out)
Jackson was ruled out for week 3 on Tuesday (9/17/13). This was a semi-surprising turn of events given the fact that his injury was labeled as a “bruise” on Sunday. But apparently when you reach the tender old age of 30 it takes a while longer to heal up. Steven Jackson owners will want to make sure they get him out of their lineups for week 3, with Jacquizz Rodgers being a low flex play for week 3.
Any running backs I missed that you think should be added to the list? Leave a comment below, and I will be sure to respond.
